Welcome from the Headteacher

At Millfield L.E.A.D. Academy we offer an exciting curriculum that is designed to ensure that every child develops the ambition to achieve and excel in English and Numeracy and to develop their unique talents. We firmly believe in developing the whole child and our curriculum demonstrates our commitment to both academic and wellbeing development. Millfield has established links with both UK and international universities and these links enable Millfield to be an active participant in educational research. This ensures that the teachers at Millfield are using the latest research backed approaches to teaching and learning. This results in above national outcomes and rates of progress across the school.

The learning environment has been transformed over the last few years and is engaging and stimulating. The children are rightly proud of their school and this is shown through their consistently good levels of behaviour in and outside of the classroom. Through these high expectations of the school and themselves, children make the right choices, work hard and have high aspirations for their future. Children in Key Stage 2 take on many roles and responsibilities to support their peers and enhance the school further.

A rich and diverse range of learning opportunities within and outside the school ensures that children are excited about their learning. Every child has the opportunity to go on two residential visits during their time at Millfield which further enhances their independence.

At Millfield we strongly believe in collaborative work and partnership. Our 16 Day Books give parents the opportunity to really get involved in their child’s learning and are greatly valued by teachers, children and parents. This collaboration extends to workshops, drop in sessions and opportunities to share in children’s learning and achievements.

Children have lots of opportunities to participate in enrichment activities and sporting competitions. We compete against schools on a local, district and county level. We are very proud of the children’s approach to competitive sport, in a range of traditional and non-traditional sports and the characteristics this builds and develops.

Millfield continues to develop and grow and as such has been awarded a range of nationally recognised awards and quality marks.

These are for a range of curriculum subjects and areas. The Routes to Resilience award is for recognising and developing a range of characteristics which we develop in children to help them in their learning now but also in the next stage of their education and into their adult life.

Millfield is a fantastic place for children to learn and we are proud of our outcomes for all children at all phases. If you require any further information, which you cannot find on our website, please contact the school office who will be happy to help you.

Very proud to see Millfield LEAD Academy featured in the TES for its novel approach to vocabulary retrieval and reading. Starling VR is proving to be academically disruptive for its impact, with significantly higher rates of retrieval than previous research and approaches have found.

Our Junior Journalists have a brand new segment: teacher profile of the week. Each week, staff across the school will be interviewed about their job, what they are teaching and a fun fact about themselves.

Mrs Connaughton is the first teacher interviewed by Maya and Stanley.

Today we asked Miss Connaughton a few questions about herself and her class.
The first question we asked was: What is your favourite class novel so far this year? Mrs Connaughton answered, “My favourite, and our class’s favourite, is Jack and the Beanstalk.”

The second question we asked was: What is your current class novel? She replied, “The current class novel is also Jack and the Beanstalk. The children are really enjoying it!”

The next question we asked was: What has been your favourite lesson for your class? Miss Connaughton answered, “The children’s favourite lesson this week was in Science, where they stretched a Curly Wurly.”

The next question we asked was: What has been the most challenging lesson for the children this week? She explained that the most challenging lesson was writing a big narrative based on Jack and the Beanstalk.

The final question we asked was: Do you have any fun facts about yourself? She told us that she loves going on holiday.
