Millfield L.E.A.D. Academy “is a fantastic school where children are put first.”

Millfield L.E.A.D. Academy – based in Braunstone Town and part of L.E.A.D. Academy Trust – has received resounding praise following its most recent Ofsted inspection.

The school was found to be ‘Good’ in its previous graded inspection, and in the latest report, inspectors stated that the school is likely to have ‘improved significantly across all areas since the previous inspection’. The inspection, which took place on 11th and 12th March 2025, was an ungraded inspection, meaning the school has not received an overall judgement.

The report is full of praise for the school’s work to support pupils’ development inside and outside the classroom, including feedback from one parent that ‘Millfield is a fantastic school where children are put first’. This was described as a ‘typical’ comment from parents at the school.

Other key highlights from the report include:

  • The school’s curriculum is ‘ambitious’ and ‘has been well designed to help pupils learn and recall a deep knowledge of subjects’. Inspectors noted that ‘staff are highly skilled at promoting pupils’ language and communication skills’.
  • Pupils ‘are happy and thrive’ at Millfield L.E.A.D. Academy. They behave ‘very well’ and are ‘highly respectful towards each other and to adults’.
  • Relationships in the school are ‘excellent’ and pupils know their “trusted adults” who they can approach if they have a worry’.
  • Children in the early years at Millfield L.E.A.D. Academy ‘get off to a flying start’.
  • Staff at Millfield L.E.A.D. Academy are ‘experts at teaching phonics’, and pupils are ‘confident and fluent readers’ as a result of the care and attention provided. The school is ‘proactive and identifies the SEND needs of pupils early’, and ‘staff skillfully make adaptations to the curriculum to allow pupils with SEND to achieve well’.
  • The school’s ‘work to promote pupils’ personal development is particularly effective’. Pupils apply for leadership roles, the school council organises events such as the pyjama day when they raise funds for a local charity.
  • Leaders regularly update the curriculum to help keep pupils safe, and ‘healthy living is prioritised by the school’.
  • Millfield L.E.A.D. Academy leaders at all levels work together effectively, alongside local governors and L.E.A.D. Academy Trust. The school ‘prioritises staff wellbeing and is mindful of staff workload when decisions are taken’. As a result, ‘staff morale is high’.
